Nurses .doctors and support staffs say president Solih fails to bring a positive change in salaries as mentioned in this year’s Presidential Statement.

According to the details announced by the Health Ministry, there is no highest paid nursing supervisor in any hospital. The salary for the post is Rs.41232/- per month.
The next highest salary is for Senior Clinical Nurse. There is no such nurse in any hospital in Maldives. The salary for the post is Rs. 37374/- per month.

Fikuregge Dhirun- the”Unholy alliance” of power & money fueled corruption https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/18/fikuregge-dhirun-theunholy-alliance-of-power-money-fueled-corruption/ https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/18/fikuregge-dhirun-theunholy-alliance-of-power-money-fueled-corruption/#respond Thu, 18 May 2023 02:16:55 +0000 https://themaldiveschronicle.com/?p=105 Identification and prevention of ideological and political frames between people of the left and MDP coalition government in Maldives

Since 2018, power in Maldives has been exercised by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) corrupt coalition, led by Ibrahim Solih and the supporters of MDP president Mohamed Nasheed. Both factions within the MDP are pro-India. The deconfliction mark of these factions became the “unholy alliance” with Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s ” Fikuregge Dhirun “, which is a movement that used populist manipulation based on exacerbating religious dichotomy, campaigning in favor of the LGBT politicians, yoga, deradicalization, anti-Islam , anti-nationalism and pro India. In this context, the aim of this article is to theoretically analyse the ideological and political frames between the MDP corrupt coalition led by Ibrahim Solih and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s ” Fikuregge Dhirun” that forms the‘Unholy alliance’ of power and money fueled corruption in the Maldives.

The decision of ex president Nasheed to contest the presidential election, the revival of an ideology” Fikuregge Dhirun” , may seem to parties that do not know the political game like the PPM-PNC a split of the MDP into two parts. But that is not true!

It is a grand sinister strategy of the MDP and the spice nation India. The MDP needs the consent of a party in the name of the opposition to legitimize all its crimes, especially the sale of the country to the spice continent India. So now the political game is being spread to make the MDP in government and the opposition also MDP.

Even if Nasheed forms a party today in the name of ” Fikuregge Dhirun” , it will be a minority party. And Fikuregge Dhirun being the opposition party with the most MPs and thus, Nasheed will demand that he be the candidate of the opposition coalition. Hindhtuhva forces of spice continent will pressure Maldives National Party (MNP) Nazim and Jumhoory Party (JP) Gasim to dance if they don’t support Ibrahim Solih (IBU). Then if IBU doesn’t win, Nasheed is close to winning. Then the spice continent would win their grip on Maldives. It was what the MDP wanted to stay in power.

So if there are people who know what the dirty game is going on, they should know our nation is going to face destruction and lose sovereignty of our nation.

Those who feel the irresistible need to express strong sentiment for our nation and its atolls must consider being pro-Maldivian, whether this Maldivian be army officer , police constable ,sweeper, fisherman , farmer, nurse, doctor, protester, Islamic scholar, businessman or child.

Maldive’s Zombie politicians find new hope after disgrace https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/18/maldives-zombie-politicians-find-new-hope-after-disgrace/ https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/18/maldives-zombie-politicians-find-new-hope-after-disgrace/#respond Thu, 18 May 2023 00:35:51 +0000 https://themaldiveschronicle.com/?p=101 Ronald Reagan once joked, “Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards. If you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.”

Today, that joke would have to be updated to add that not only can you write a book, but you can also be on TV show, run for office again and possibly even win.

Disgraced politicians never die. They’re like Jason from the “Friday the 13th” movies – you just can’t kill them. They keep coming at you like the political version of zombies.

Sure, some fallen Maldivian politicians still write books about “politics.”

After losing grip on the Maldivian Democratic Party , ex-president Mohamed Nasheed, MP, Speaker of the People’s Majlis wrote a book Dhe Radhun and, went on TV show “ASK SPEAKER” while former president Yameen languishing in jail over money laundering and bribery charges against by President Solih’s government.

Among politicians who don’t end up in jail, some try hard to become elected officials again. They want to go back to the very place that caused their problems. It’s like a recovering drug addict asking to work at a meth lab – not a good combo.

Maldives zombie politicians who are loyalists of ex president and current Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed have found new hope to come to power with “Fikurehge Dhirun” and announced the decision to form a new political party under the name “Fikurehge Dhirun”.

‘Fikuregge Dhirun’; the same name given is the separate political movement initiated within MDP by Nasheed following his loss in the party’s presidential primary back in January.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday following the resignation of several parliamentarians who are loyal to Nasheed, from ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), MP for north Galolhu constituency Eva Abdulla revealed that the decision to form the new political party was reached to serve the people. But it is to be noted that these so called leaders are all failed politicians of MDP and memders of the People’s Majilis who could not do any fruitful work for the people or progress of the nation in the last four years in the parilament.

Several MDP members, including MDP Vice President Mohamed Shifaz and former State Trading Organisation (STO) Managing Director Hussain Amru, have submitted their resignation letters to the MDP.

Eva noted that she left the ruling party and decided to form a new political party as she believes MDP is not based upon the values observed before.

Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, who also left the party on Wednesday, noted that they will be submitting the registration of their new political party to the Elections Commission of Maldives in the upcoming week.

It was also announced that the new political party spearheaded by Nasheed will be producing a candidate for this year’s presidential election, slated for September. It has been revealed that the party will be holding discussions with other political parties they can possibly collaborate with for the presidential polls.

So far, 12 members aligned with Nasheed have submitted their resignations, following the expulsion of Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim from the party.

The 12 members who resigned from MDP on Wednesday are;

  • Parliament’s Deputy Speaker, North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla
  • Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed (Wadde)
  • North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahumy (Inthi)
  • West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef
  • Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb
  • North Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef
  • Vilufushi MP Hassan Afeef
  • Central Maafannu MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde)
  • Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan
  • Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan (Gita)
  • North Mahchangoalhi MP Mohamed Rasheed (Boadhigu)
  • Gadhdhoo MP Ahmed Zahir

All 12 members are Nasheed loyalists.

Nasheed also engaged in coalition discussions with Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the formation of a coalition between Nasheed and JP.

Politicians closely associated with former president and current Speaker Mohamed Nasheed said that Nasheed has initiated the process of expanding his political activities and influence, and made the decision to establish a new political party.

The new party will be named ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’; the same name given to the separate political movement initiated within MDP by Nasheed following a bitter defeat in the party’s presidential primary back in January. All MP’s from ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ faction tendered their resignation from MDP on Wednesday as they pursue the formation of a new political party.

During the press conference held by the resigned parliamentarians, Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb said that the faction plans to establish a new political party and participate in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for September.

However, the faction has not yet revealed the specific candidate who will contest the elections. Despite repeated questions from the press regarding whether Nasheed would be a candidate, they did not provide a definite answer.

Yameen’s appeal in Fuggiri case rejected https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/17/yameens-appeal-in-fuggiri-case-rejected/ https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/17/yameens-appeal-in-fuggiri-case-rejected/#respond Wed, 17 May 2023 12:00:42 +0000 https://themaldiveschronicle.com/?p=84 The Maldives Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the appeal filed by former President Abdullah Yameen against the Criminal Court’s decision in the Raa atoll Fuggiri case.

The Supreme Court ruled that there was no reason to quash the lower court’s decision on the evidence in the prosecution’s case against former President Abdullah Yameen for taking bribes and using the money

Yameen, who is currently serving an 11 years prison sentence for accepting bribes and money laundering in the Vaavu atoll Aarah lease case, was also charged with laundering USD 1.1 million received in bribes for the lease of Raa atoll Fuggiri.

Following the Criminal Court ruling on the case, his defence appealed against some of the rulings made by the court. Some of them included not accepting former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath as witnesses, in addition to requests made to recover certain documents according to the Evidence Act.

The court’s rulings were upheld by the Maldives High Court when it was appealed by Yameen.

After High Court’s decision was appealed by Yameen’s defense at the Supreme Court, a three-judge bench unanimously upheld High Court’s decision as well. However, the Supreme Court in its verdict identified some of the grounds in reaching High Court’s decision invalid.

The court ruled that the new evidence, with Adeeb and Ziyath as witnesses, cannot be induced according to the Evidence Act. The court said that the Act was enacted after the case had already entered trial, and it cannot be applied retrospectively to cases that predated its implementation. The Supreme Court emphasized that the evidence from Adeeb and Ziyath should only be considered in relation to their ongoing trial at the Criminal Court.

Yameen’s defense also appealed the absence of legal reasoning behind the admission of additional witness testimonies in the Criminal Court’s judgment. The Supreme Court, in its verdict, deemed this act as wrongful. However, the lower court cannot be compelled to undertake a retrial to amend the contested areas as the trial is already in progress and the parties still have the opportunity to present their arguments regarding the submitted evidence.

Maldives files lawsuit against India’s MM Export over Fushi Dhiggaru reef incident https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/17/maldives-files-lawsuit-against-indias-mm-export-over-fushi-dhiggaru-reef-incident/ https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2023/05/17/maldives-files-lawsuit-against-indias-mm-export-over-fushi-dhiggaru-reef-incident/#respond Wed, 17 May 2023 11:17:57 +0000 https://themaldiveschronicle.com/?p=77 The Maldives government has taken a significant step in seeking justice by filing a lawsuit against MM Export, an Indian company, over its failure to pay a fine of MVR 110 million for the Fushi Dhiggaru reef incident that occurred in 2015. Despite eight years of efforts to secure compensation, the company has not fulfilled its financial obligations, leading to legal action.

History of Repeated Offenses: MM Export’s Troubled Track Record

MM Export has been involved in several incidents involving the capsizing of tug boats and barges on reefs, raising concerns about its safety practices and environmental impact. The local courts had previously ordered the company to pay the fine of MVR 110 million, but it has consistently failed to comply, prompting the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to intervene. Despite being granted three extensions to settle the fine, MM Export has not made the required payment.

EPA lodged a case against MM Export

Following the company’s persistent non-compliance, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lodged a case against MM Export with the Attorney General’s Office. In December 2022, the lawsuit against the company was filed at the Maldives Civil Court. An official from the Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the defendant has been given time to prepare for the trial.

The consequences of the Fushi Dhiggaru reef incident are significant, as an area measuring 4,370 square meters suffered damage due to the capsized barge. Moreover, another incident involving MM Export took place on the Haa Alifu atoll Dhihdhoo reef, where a tug boat and a barge owned by the company capsized. While the barge was successfully righted, the damaged tug had to be towed by another vessel from Malé. The Dhihdhoo Council has stated that the EPA will conduct an assessment to determine the extent of the reef damage caused by this incident.

It is worth noting that MM Export has a history of similar incidents. In 2014, one of their vessels capsized on the Kaafu atoll Thilafushi reef, resulting in a fine of MVR 2.8 million after a reduction from the initial MVR 22 million penalty. These repeated incidents raise concerns about the company’s adherence to safety standards and its commitment to protecting the delicate marine ecosystems of the Maldives.

While MM Export faces legal action for the damages inflicted on the reefs, another Indian company, AFCONS Infrastructure, has also been ordered to pay a fine for reef damages in Kaafu atoll Vilimalé. AFCONS was held accountable for a bridge platform accident that caused damage to the Vilimalé reef and was ordered to pay a fine of MVR 69 million. Despite the fine and subsequent appeals, the Maldives Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aminath Shauna, has emphasized that the government has no intention of waiving the penalty, underscoring the commitment to protecting the country’s fragile marine ecosystems.

You can lower your risk of dengue by avoiding mosquito bites especially during the day.

Dengue is treated with pain medicine as there is no specific treatment currently.

Symptoms

Most people with dengue have mild or no symptoms and will get better in 1–2 weeks. Rarely, dengue can be severe and lead to death.

Emerging leader of the Maldivian Politics https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2021/08/25/emerging-leader-of-the-maldivian-politics/ https://themaldiveschronicle.com/2021/08/25/emerging-leader-of-the-maldivian-politics/#respond Wed, 25 Aug 2021 20:28:21 +0000 https://themaldiveschronicle.com/?p=42 President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has failed to up hold democracy and rule of law in the Maldives since he and his closest political partner and President of the Maldivian Democratic Party Mohamed Nasheed attained their respective offices. The political duos have been running the country against the constitution of the Maldives by imposing a parliamentary form of government in the country and running the government like a parliamentary form of government as per their wishes. The government run by both President Solih and Mohamed has been termed as “crocodile democracy” by their critics and opposition party supporters.

The Maldivian constitution that came into existence after 30 years of dictatorship rule by Maumoon Abdul Qayoom allows President Solih to run the country under a presidential form of government. But with increasing accusations of corruption by the people ,critics and opposition parties he is trying to win the support of some of the most corrupt members in the majilis which is the Maldivian parliament. Many parliament members belonging to the Maldivian Democratic Party are accused of corruption especially in the case of ex vice president Adeeb who earned millions of black money through Maldivian Marketing and Public relations company (MMPRC) fraud case.Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is the government body mandated with the promotion of Maldives as a tourist destination.

The opposition party PPM and public accuses President Solih of corruption and treating former president Yameen Abdul Qayoom indifferent and denying justice to him by trapping him in the MMPRC scandal.

Many Maldivians now believe most of the politicians in the Maldivies are extremely corrupt and the two major political parties MDP and PPM and their puppets cheated the public since the start of multi party democracy in the Maldives.

The nation is now waking up to a new found political awareness and an emerging leader but the truth would be bitter for the two main parties in the upcoming presidential election to be held in 2023.The nation is beging to search for a new leader who can lead the country out of the political mess and extreme corruption that has spread like a virus in most of the departments and the ministries of President Ibrahim Solih government.

The educated youth and elders are convinced that the emerging political aspirant Dr.Mohamed Athif who is a medical professional could only lead the nation out of the mess created by the political duos Solih and Nasheed. Many youth and educated younger generation believe that Dr.Mohamed Athif is the only leader in the country without a stain of corruption and have the courage to stand for justice and raise voice for the people and serve the people to make the Maldives another Malysia or Singapore in the region.

Mean while Dr.Athif is running a campaign under the banner of Maldivies Nationalist Movement (MNM) including many educated youth and experienced elders. He announced few months back that he is on the way to register MNM as a new political party and also he would win the next presidential election in 2023.His supporters say he is a leader with a vision and his understanding of the Maldivian problems and close contact with the citizens would make him a favourable choice of most citizens and with his 21 st century leadership the Maldives would transform into a nation of progress ,peace and justice and a liveable country for the families. He is raising voice against rampant corruption in the Maldives ,favours housing justice and advocate for quality COVID 19 vaccine to the public to protect their lives and stop the spread of SARS CoV2 corona virus.

The public accuses the government of president Solih for his failure to control the community spread of the virus and also his failure to give a quality mRNA vaccine like Pfaiza or Moderna covid vaccine. Many people died after taking Covishield vaccine .

The Maldivian Prosecutor General’s Office charged the disgraced former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed of President Solih cabinet with a total of seven counts of sexual offences at the Criminal Court of the Maldives.

Ali Waheed was dismissed as Tourism Minister on July 9, 2020, following allegations that he sexually assaulted and harassed multiple female employees at the Tourism Ministry. He was initially asked to voluntarily resign but was dismissed after he refused.

The offences are:

  • One count of sexual abuse under article 16 of the Sexual Offences Act (17/2014)
  • One count of attempted rape under article 15 of the Sexual Offences Act (17/2014)
  • One count of indecent exposure under article 132 of The Constitution of Maldives

Ali Waheed fled from the country, citing a medical emergency, after his passport was released. He was initially scheduled to arrive in the Maldives in early June as his medical treatment duration of 4 months had expired.

Ali’s arrest comes hours after he announced that his legal team would hold a press conference later this evening. The press conference was scheduled for 4:00 pm

The Maldivian police have been working with Interpol to extradite the former minister following a Supreme Court order sentencing him to two months and 12 days in jail for contempt of court. The top court sentenced him after he failed to attend an appeal hearing held at the court on August 11.
